Where Is It?
AS you make the two-mile drive down Sunset Boulevard, you’ll see the lighthouse in the background. Head further down, toward the kaleidoscopic sunset, which reflects on the WWII watchtower, and you’ll see the red light that marks the end of Sunset Boulevard and the start of your adventure.
Why Should I Go?
MANY reasons! This is the home of one of the most enduring Cape May traditions – the lowering of the American flag every night at sunset to the strains of Kate Smith singing “God Bless America”. Sunsets are truly spectacular here. Don’t even think about leaving Cape May without witnessing the scene in front of the Concrete Ship.
And don’t worry that your kids will be over the whole sunset thing – there’s plenty of other stuff to do. A beautifully designed miniature golf course opened last year, and more fun can be had browsing the three stores full of gifts. When you’re hungry, the Sunset Beach Grill serves burgers, dogs and other American staples.
Come an hour or two before the ceremony and search for Cape May Diamonds, the quartz stones that wash up on this stretch of beach. Or, head into the gift shop and buy some already polished.
