IN 1901, Sol Needles started the first real estate office in Cape May, and to this day it’s stayed in the family. Sol’s daughter Catherine took over in 1922 and ran it with part-time help for 40 years until her son Barney joined in the late 1950s. Barney took over the business in 1963 and, in 1976, Bill Bezaire, the husband of one of Barney’s daughters, joined the office. That same year, another of Barney’s daughters, Lynn Gleeson, came on board. In 1987, Sol Needles joined forces with Coldwell Banker, giving them national recognition. And in 1999 Lynn and Bill bought the business from Barney and have kept the company No. 1 in Cape May. Coldwell Banker maintain a 20-25% market share in the city and many of their salespeople are perennial recipients of the multi-million dollar sales award. However, Coldwell Banker manage to maintain the feeling of a smaller, family-run business, now in its fifth generation – in fact, Bill’s son Chris is the newest member of the staff.
